Gossips, meet - after some lull, Svetlana Friesen is returning to us, she is everyone's favorite blogger Miracle. Starting today, she will again regularly reveal to us all the secrets of beauty and cosmetic products - her beauty column will be released every two weeks on Wednesdays at 15:00. And today we will talk about mascara in her post.

Mascara is an absolute cosmetic favorite for almost any woman. This, perhaps, is one of those means without which it is impossible to do in any situation.

Mascara will make eyelashes longer or curled, provide them with care, emphasize the depth, beauty and expressiveness of your eyes only if it is correctly and carefully chosen and contains useful substances.

What do you need to know about mascara in order to understand that this cherished tube is the very treasure?

The first is the components of the carcass. It usually consists of: water, soap, carbon black, powdered coloring pigment, waxy substances, fats, hardening resins, mastic, nutritional supplements and preservatives.

But then how do carcasses differ from each other?

Everything is simple - an addition to the composition.

For example, components are added to the main composition of the mascara to improve the condition of the eyelashes or accelerate their growth, increase the length or volume, which can protect the eyelashes from the adverse effects of external factors or the environment (wind, dry air, frost, high temperature etc.).

Let's take a closer look at the components that make up the mascara:

Keratin strengthens eyelashes. It is a natural protein that covers each eyelash with a thin film.

Melanin protects eyelashes from the influence of external factors, has a beneficial effect on them.

Lanolin moisturizes eyelashes, helps prevent their fragility and dryness.

Panthenol increases the thickness of each eyelash and improves their condition as a whole.

Proteins promote active growth of eyelashes.

vitamins (A, E, F and provitamin B5) nourish, strengthen and moisturize the eyelashes, stimulate their growth and give the eyelashes elasticity and silkiness.

Castor oil has an anti-inflammatory effect, nourishes the roots of eyelashes, strengthens and stimulates their growth.

preservatives- an obligatory component of any carcass. They prevent the appearance and reproduction of microorganisms (glycerin, small doses of benzalkonium chloride and thimerosal are commonly used as preservatives).

UV blockers protect eyelashes from exposure to sunlight.

Cosmetic companies do not stand still - in a world of great competition, ordinary mascara is practically not produced, shelves are bursting with goods, and its types, composition and brushes are becoming more unusual and intricate every year. Mascara can be of a certain type, depending on the decorative effect, or it includes several at once: lengthening, curling, increasing the volume of eyelashes. The type of carcass depends not only on its composition, but also on the shape of the brush.

1. Synthetic brushes work well for long, clump-free lashes. Hard bristles perfectly separate the cilia from each other, while carefully staining them.

2. For carefully colored and lush eyelashes, it is best to use large brushes. The larger and denser the bristles, the thicker the eyelashes.

3. In order to carefully paint over the eyelashes in the corners of the eyes, it is best to use mascara with a round spherical barbed brush. Applying mascara with such a brush will help to give the eye a beautiful almond shape. These brushes are designed to capture even the smallest lashes and are easy to maneuver.

4. For thick and curled eyelashes, you should try mascara with a curved brush. This shape of the brush helps to lift and curl the eyelashes along their entire growth line. For the greatest effect when applying mascara, the brush should be briefly fixed at the roots of the cilia and gently pressed, and then moved upwards with the brush, as if stretching them and twisting them even more.

5. For staining the lower and small cilia, it is best to choose mascara with a fine brush.

Mascara varieties

Lengthening mascara contains small fibers that increase the length of the eyelashes.

As part of voluminous mascara, as a rule, there are micro-granules of wax that envelop each eyelash and cover it with a "thickening" microfilm, thanks to which the eyelashes do not stick together, but look voluminous. To thicken the eyelashes, coal dust or the smallest fibers are sometimes added to the mascara. The brushes of this mascara have evenly spaced bristles.

Part curling mascara be sure to include resins and keratin, which form a special shrinking layer on the surface of the eyelashes, thereby fixing the eyelashes in a twisted form. However, the brush still plays the main role here. It must certainly be curved with short bristles.

Treatment mascara and mascara for sensitive eyes. For those who find it difficult to use conventional mascara, which causes them redness and discomfort, there is an organic formula mascara. It contains a minimum amount of preservatives and a lot of natural materials and all the ingredients can be read on the packaging. Among other things, the composition of the carcass may include nutrients and medicinal substances, such mascara can be used by people with weakened eyelashes.

The treatment mascara looks like a clear gel. It includes more benefits - Castor oil, vitamins, proteins, keratins, which make eyelashes more elastic and emphasize their natural beauty, can slightly fix them, but this mascara does not contain any dyes.

There is also mascara that will make any woman cry beautifully. This waterproof mascara. Let's dwell on it in a little more detail, since the use of this type of mascara is most relevant in the summer months.

Waterproof mascara is an indispensable product on a special day when you need to be sure that your makeup will last especially long - for example, on your wedding day, in the pool or if you play sports.

Using such mascara, you will not have to worry about it flowing at the most touching moment or being imprinted on the upper eyelid. It is also indispensable on vacation, when you can dive into the water without worrying about your beauty - waterproof mascara literally repels water.

This mascara contains Dimethicone Copolyol. Thanks to this substance, the eyelashes remain soft and elastic. This same chemical is often added to other types of super long-lasting beauty products. There are some ingredients that make up waterproof mascara that are kept in the strictest confidence.

It is worth removing super-resistant mascara with a special tool and very delicately, otherwise you risk damaging thin eyelashes if you wash the mascara too aggressively.

But there is one not very pleasant fact regarding waterproof mascara. It has no additional effects other than its durability. If that suits you, then great. Some companies produce a super-resistant coating for ordinary mascara, that is, this is a great option if you do not want to part with your favorite mascara. To make your eye makeup last, you just need to apply this top coat over your mascara (you might as well layer super long-wear on your favorite mascara).

How to color eyelashes

Before you move on to coloring your lashes, don't forget about additional tools that will help make your mascara application easier and make your makeup look flawless.

Firstly, should not be overlooked primers under ink. There are two options here - either use it or not. If you like thick colored lashes, primers are your option as they really thicken and lengthen lashes, but primers are usually white (terrible white) so it's worth trying to cover all that beauty with mascara. Primers are both together with mascara (2 in 1), and separately. If you've never used a mascara primer before, I'd recommend giving it a try.

Secondly, To make your eyelashes look longer, you can powder them savory.

Third, Don't miss out on eyelash curlers. It is worth twisting the eyelashes in three approaches - at the roots, in the middle and at the tips, while not squeezing the eyelashes, so you risk not only breaking them in half, but also tearing them out. Remember, your lashes will stay curled longer if you use waterproof mascara because it doesn't contain water.

Fresh news - some companies have already released not mechanical tweezers, but electric ones, and these devices look something like this:

There is no single correct standard for how to apply mascara, but there are some points that are worth paying attention to.

So, every woman has the right to choose how much she wants to make up her eyelashes - lightly emphasize them with one layer of mascara, or apply mascara tightly in several layers.

But you should always remember a few rules of application:

- mascara must be applied with zigzag movements from side to side and with a pulling upward movement (see figure);

- mascara is applied from roots to ends. It is important to apply mascara at the roots to hold the lashes in place, and applied to the tips makes the lashes look longer.

- professionals apply mascara not only from the inside, but also from the outside. (see pic).

- to make the eyes appear as large and open as possible, you should paint over both the upper and lower eyelashes. If you don't like to color your lower lashes, then apply mascara only lightly. But we should not forget about the side eyelashes. If you apply mascara, holding the brush vertically relative to the eye, then the side cilia will be twisted as much as possible (see fig.).

- if there is a need to separate the cilia, you can use a comb after applying the mascara - it is designed to separate the cilia and save you from gluing or lumps. It is better to use a special comb with iron teeth.

- it is recommended to remove excess eye makeup and correct imperfections with a clean cotton swab.

Colored mascara... To use or not?

Bright colored mascara is the absolute trend of the season, however, few take colored mascara seriously. You might think that using colored mascara, we will turn into pop divas of the eighties and nineties, along with leggings and bouffants. In fact key point in the use of colored ink is a combination. The combination of eye color and mascara color should not be random, so I will try to tell you which mascara will shade your eye color most advantageously and will not look like something alien on your eyelashes.

Colored mascara should not be worn without shadows and eyeliner, it must be shaded with something. In addition, any colored mascara, except for brown, is best applied on one layer of black mascara. So she will give the lashes the right shade and give the makeup and eye color a beautiful and sophisticated, not a carnival look.

Of course, black is a classic option, but sometimes, especially in summer, you can treat yourself to bright and light shades.

To achieve maximum results and emotional satisfaction from the money spent on cosmetics, you need to choose the right mascara, decide on the brush that you like best, and finally find a mascara that combines all the properties that suit you. I really hope that this article will help you to one degree or another to figure out what kind of mascara you need.

Stay beautiful and healthy!

Miracle Photos

Every self-care woman has mascara in her cosmetic bag, the purpose of which is to emphasize, highlight eyelashes and change their natural color. In the cosmetics market, it is presented in all its diversity and sometimes it is very difficult to choose the one that will bring joy and pleasure. Well, let's get into the details...

The first mascara in the history of cosmetology was discovered by the English merchant Eugene Rimmel in the 19th century. Since then, the word "rimmel" means "ink" in Portuguese, Turkish, Romanian and many other languages of the world.

Compound

The effectiveness of this cosmetic product largely depends on the composition, which can vary significantly from manufacturer to manufacturer. Therefore, when purchasing this or that mascara, do not be too lazy to find out what ingredients will be on your eyelashes. The less chemical formulas you don't understand, the better. If necessary, turn on the Internet and translate incomprehensible words. Perhaps they hide quite ordinary substances that only sound scary, but are actually very useful for cilia.

Mascara types

Lengthening

Lengthening mascaras should contain nylon or silk fibers. On the packaging - marks "length" (length) or "extend" (extension). The brush is usually with uniform long villi. The consistency is liquid. Often produced in a double case: on the one hand - a white base for lengthening, on the other - colored mascara, which is applied over the base. The result is lengthening of the eyelashes.

For volume

Composition - wax microgranules, silicone, paraffin. Mark - "volume" (volume). The consistency is thick. The brush is barrel-shaped, with frequent bristles. Purpose - giving eyelashes splendor, volume, density.

Waterproof

In the composition - wax, resins, volatile polymers, persistent dyes. Be careful with these components. They are very powerful in their action and often cause allergic reactions. For sensitive eyes, they are definitely contraindicated. Look for the “moisture-proof” designation on the packaging. Advantage: with such mascara, you can safely walk in the rain or swim and not be afraid that the eyelashes will be without makeup. Disadvantage: very difficult to remove.

Curling

Curling mascara contains substances that, when dried, leave a beautiful curve on the surface on which they were applied. Mark - "curl" (curl). The brush is curved, with short, short villi.

Hypoallergenic

As part of such a carcass, you will not find preservatives that cause irritation of the mucous membrane of the eyes. The packaging should say "sensitive" (sensitive) or "oftalmologically tested" (passed ophthalmological control). Such a tool is useful for those who wear lenses, as well as owners of sensitive eyes prone to tearing and redness.

With the effect of false eyelashes

It immediately gives a multi-component result: lengthening, volume, twisting. That is, a 3 in 1 product. The packaging is usually marked “effetto giglia finte” (it translates as the effect of false eyelashes). The brush, as a rule, has a very bizarre shape: curved, barrel-shaped and the villi are twisted in different directions.

Color selection

Given the different colors of mascara, you can easily match your color type. Black (“black”) is suitable for brunettes, it is better for blondes to choose brown (“brown”), green (“green”) and blue (“blue”), most often combined with the color of the eyes or makeup.

Rating of the best mascaras

Naturally, every woman needs best mascara for eyelashes, which will ideally combine quality, safety, and price. To find such a tool, look at the rating of leading brands.

French

L "Oréal (Loreal); Bourjois (Bourgeois); Lancôme (Lancome); Chanel (Chanel); Cabaret (Cabaret); Dior (Dior); Yves Saint Laurent (Yves Saint Laurent); Yves Rocher (Yves Rocher); Guerlain ( Guerlain); Helena Rubinstein (Helena Rubinstein); Maybelline (Maybelin). The latter originally belonged to the United States, but on this moment refers to the French L "Oréal.

American

Max Factor(Max Factor); Avon (Avon); Clinique (Clinic).

Catrice from Germany, Faberlic and Divage (Russia), Oriflame and IsaDora from Sweden, Vivienne sabo (Switzerland), Eveline from Poland have also proven themselves in the market of high-quality and effective mascaras. Feel free to choose cosmetical tools from their series and not be afraid that the result will not live up to expectations or the eyes will water from the abundance chemical substances in composition. These are proven brands that you can trust the beauty of your eyes.

However, there are those who prefer to use exclusively natural cosmetics, so further in our article is a recipe for mascara at home.

Modern ink was first created in 1913 by Terry Williams (a chemist) for his sister Mabel. It was a mixture of Vaseline and coal dust. Terry named the mascara company "Maybelline", an apt combination of his sister's name (Mabel) and the common word "Vaseline" (Vaseline).

Mascara at home

A huge plus of this tool is its 100% naturalness. You will be sure of the quality and safety of its components, as you will assemble them yourself. At the same time, it must be understood that the resulting product will not differ in durability and it is possible to store such a product even in the refrigerator for only 2 to 5 days, because they will not contain those very harmful preservatives.

Recipe #1

activated charcoal (4 tablets); corn starch (incomplete teaspoon); liquid for contact lenses(half a teaspoon); almond oil (1 teaspoon).

Crush activated charcoal and pour into a bowl. Put starch in there, mix. Add oil, mix, then liquid and mix again. Leave for an hour.

Recipe number 2

Egg (1 piece); activated carbon (4 pieces).

Crush activated charcoal. The egg should not be cold, so you should take it out of the refrigerator in advance (about 2 hours before preparing the carcass). Separate the yolk and pour crushed coal into it. To stir thoroughly.

The composition of any of these homemade mascaras can include retinol (liquid vitamin A) for eyelash growth, any vitamins from group B (they add shine, strength), glycerin (it will not allow the cilia to treacherously stick together when applied), grapefruit essential oil (possesses excellent antibacterial action).

If black mascara doesn't work for you, replace the activated charcoal with food coloring or powdered eyeshadow that you'll need to grind first.

To create a brilliant evening make-up, you can include small sparkles in your homemade mascara.

Store the prepared composition in a bottle from under the old carcass, however, it must first be washed and disinfected. The same will need to be done with a brush.

Let me remind you once again that such a product will have to be stored exclusively in the refrigerator and no more than 5 days. And yolk mascara only 2 days.

) told why budget mascaras can be more effective than expensive ones, what causes the lengthening effect and how to choose brushes.

Fact number 1: the composition of the carcass depends on the functions

Each mascara has its own special formula. The composition of the extension, as a rule, includes special fibers that attach to the tips of the hairs and thereby add a few millimeters.

The lengthening effect is also created by dividing and coloring the hairs from the base to the tips. The brush plays an important role. It should be of medium density and with a short pile. Often such brushes are made of silicone, similar to rubber rollers.

On packages with mascara for volume, there is always a mark “volume”. It has a thicker consistency and a barrel-shaped brush.

Often the composition includes wax microgranules, silicone, paraffin. They envelop the eyelashes, thickening them and making them more voluminous.

For volume mascara, the polymer base is important - it is she who allows you to create a wow effect. The brush of a voluminous mascara is usually soft, massive and fluffy: it easily picks up a sufficient amount of product and distributes it over the eyelashes. Of the additional ingredients are often found: hyaluronic acid, arginine, beeswax to give the eyelashes a bend.

Fact number 2: one of the main components of the carcass is soot

The main components of the carcass: water, soot, soap, carefully ground coloring pigment, fats, waxy substances, hardening resins, preservatives and nutritional supplements. It is desirable that the composition does not contain "chemistry" (or its content is reduced to zero), fragrances and preservatives that can cause allergies.

Fact #3: Mascara Ingredients Can Cause Allergies

Allergies are most often caused by products with a low-quality composition. A hyperimmune response can be provoked by: flower pigment, silicone, polymers, lanolin, essential oils.

Many brands have hypoallergenic mascaras. They do not contain preservatives that cause irritation of the mucous membrane of the eyes.

Look for the label “sensitive” (sensitive) or “oftalmologically tested” (ophthalmologically tested) on the package. By the way, this is a great option for those who wear lenses, as well as for owners of sensitive eyes prone to tearing and redness.

Fact number 4: most often, manufacturers use melanin as a pigment

The ancient Egyptians dyed their eyelashes with sticks made from elephant tusks. The composition of the "carcass" was, to put it mildly, strange: the coloring pigment was obtained from antimony powder, burnt almonds, a mixture of graphite with honey and crocodile droppings.

In 900 BC in Europe they began to make ink from soot, in 1500 AD - from walnut shells. By the way, soot is still used today - I have already talked about this. As a rule, it is part of the natural organic cosmetics. An alternative is melanin, which does not cause allergies and gives a rich color.

Fact #5: Until 1917, ink was made at home

I'll tell you a few interesting facts about mascara.

The ancient Romans were sure: eyelashes fall out after carnal pleasures. And to hide their vicious behavior, women began to use a mixture of burnt rose petals and date pits. The more traditional "ink" was made from ash, antimony, and soot.

Until 1917, mascara was made at home. For the first time, it was launched into mass production by the founder of Maybelline Cosmetics, Eugene Rimmel.

The formula consisted of coal dust and petroleum jelly.

The world's first waterproof mascara appeared in 1938. It was created by Helena Rubinstein. The waterproof effect was achieved due to the presence of turpentine in the composition, which often caused severe allergies. And the smell of the carcass scared the people around.

Fact #6: There are over 100 types of mascara brushes

There are about a hundred forms of mascara brushes. They differ in the length of the villi, the material of manufacture, weaving. The classic version is made of plastic. There are brushes with natural bristles, on which the villi are arranged randomly - they add volume. Man-made fibers are made from rubber. Elastomer brushes are denser with elastic bristles. Structurally separates the lashes, allowing you to create a neat make-up.

Fact number 7: the brush affects the modeling of eyelashes

A plastic brush with a sparse pile allows you to achieve volume. But she does not know how to separate hairs. For separation, use silicone brushes.

Spiral villi - ideal for owners of naughty eyelashes. The short pile on the brush goes well with short cilia: it perfectly paints the lower row of cilia and hairs in the corners of the eyes.

Thick pile for thick eyelashes! Separates hairs to create length. Solid bristles will suit those who have soft eyelashes.

The curved brush lifts the hairs and twists easily, making the so-called "doll" look.

Fact number 8: carcass may contain caring components

Lanolin serves to prevent dryness and brittle eyelashes, proteins (usually wheat germ proteins are used) provide active growth, melanin provides protection from aggressive environmental factors, keratin is a natural protein that, when applied, covers each eyelash with a thin film, strengthening it. UV blockers are an excellent component for sun protection, castor oil and vitamins B5 and A, E, F moisturize and stimulate growth.

Fact #9: There is virtually no water in waterproof mascara

Waterproof mascara consists of isododecane volatile solvents, animal wax (beeswax), vegetable wax (carnauba wax, rice bran wax, candelila wax), mineral wax (ozocerite, paraffin), dyes (iron oxide, ultramarine), polymers.

There is practically no water in waterproof mascara, which is the reason for its effect.

Fact #10: Colored ink appeared in the 60s

For the first time, fashionistas were able to use colored ink in the 60s. Revlon and Max Factor launched the Roll-On Mascara and the Iridescent Mascara Wand at the same time. Revlon pleased with blue ink. Max Factor presented a palette of four shades: green, blue, gold and lavender. Egg white is often used to prepare color options.

Fact #11: The price of mascara depends not only on the composition, but also on marketing

The price of mascara is formed from many factors, including the cost of an advertising campaign. Of course, the ingredients included in the composition, packaging, brush also play a role. But commercial aspects should not be overlooked: the price of a commercial, the purchase of airtime, and others.

Makeup artists are always on the lookout perfect combination prices and quality.

Fact #12: Carcasses have a short shelf life after opening

The average shelf life before opening is 3-4 years. After you open the package, you have no more than 6 months to use it (usually it is much less). On the package, the expiration date is indicated by the letter M and a number. My main rule: never give your mascara to anyone to avoid eye infections.

To make the mascara last longer, remove and insert the brush with twisting movements. Always close the tube tightly - it should not come into contact with air. Do not store mascara in the bathroom - there it deteriorates and dries quickly due to temperature changes.

Fact #13: Dried mascara is best left undiluted, but there are ways to “reanimate” it safely

If the mascara is dry, it goes straight to the trash can. But in emergency situations, the remedy can be "reanimated" in several ways. The first is to dip the bottle into hot water, the second is to add a few drops of water to the tube, the third is to dilute with fresh mascara, the fourth is to add a few drops of hypoallergenic oil. There is one nuance during storage that reduces the shelf life. There is a small ring on the neck of the tube - it serves to remove excess product from the brush. It is important to remove these residues! Otherwise, they dry out, violating the tightness.

Fact #14: Even hypoallergenic mascara should always be washed off

Cleansing is one of the most important steps in skincare.

Soot, city dust from roads, exhaust gases - settle on our face and eyelashes as well. The skin around the eyes is especially sensitive and needs special care. Rinse off your mascara!

In any of them there are components that can dry out, and enveloping each hair and drying out, increase brittleness.

Fact #15: The less you use waterproof mascara, the better.

The effect of water resistance is achieved due to special synthetic components that form a film. Such mascara disrupts metabolic processes, preventing the access of oxygen.

Daily use of waterproof mascara causes thinning and provoking lash loss - keep this in mind. In order to remove it, you need special tools that also contribute to dryness. Before applying waterproof mascara, I recommend using oil or a special base.

Fact #16: There is a difference between waterproof and waterproof mascara

And it's not just about writing: moisture- or water-pro. Waterproof does not "cement" eyelashes so much and has very few fixing polymers. But it is better not to use it in the pool or at the sea, if you do not want the "panda" effect - it is not designed to be exposed to such an amount of water.

Fact number 17: you need to wash off the mascara correctly

If you put on mascara early in the morning and wash it off late at night, soak it in warm water first and let it swell a bit. This will greatly reduce the risk of injury while using the sponge. Remove waterproof mascara with special products. If there is no micellar water or milk at home, use olive oil. Never wash off the mascara with soap - it dries the skin and leads to the appearance of early wrinkles. At sensitive skin it is better to use a two-phase liquid.

Fact #18: The mascara brush needs to be cleaned periodically

Periodically brushes need cleaning. Wipe it with a clean cloth dampened with eye makeup remover, or use soapy water.

Fact #19: Belarusian-made mascaras can often be found at famous makeup artists

And indeed it is. Mascara XXL with spectacular false eyelashes does not know only the lazy. It can easily compete with luxury in terms of efficiency - it lays down evenly, does not crumble, lengthens and gives volume. But, I would like to pay attention. Inexpensive mascaras rarely contain caring ingredients - most often, manufacturers care about a one-time effect, and not about what will happen in a month.

Fact #20: There are some very strange ingredients in mascara

The mascara contains guanine, a crystalline coloring ingredient that provides a shimmering effect and is made from the smallest fish scales. Some manufacturers still use mercury as a preservative. In 2013, the UN finally removed mascara and soap from the list of products that cannot use this metal. The reason is the lack of effective substitutes.

No wonder they say: "The eyes are the mirror of the soul." Psychologists have long established that long, curled eyelashes catch the eye of others. The expressiveness of the eyes is the first thing that the interlocutor pays attention to. And mascara allows you to “open” them even more and emphasize their shape, lengthen and slightly bend your eyelashes, give them volume and the desired color.

Composition and properties

Most carcasses contain fats, water, wax, dyes and preservatives (essential oils are often used in their role). Mascara may contain vitamins, biologically active substances, including proteins (favorably affect the growth and condition of eyelashes), keratin (strengthens eyelashes), lanolin (prevents dryness and brittleness of eyelashes). The essential vitamin for eyelash growth is vitamin A.

Good mascara easily and evenly lays on the eyelashes, envelops them, gives nice shape, increases volume. It does not stick eyelashes, does not form lumps, does not crumble and does not smear under the eyes. Along with the decorative function, the mascara also performs a protective one - it protects the eyelashes from dust and wind, prevents their fragility and fading in the sun.

Nevertheless, one should not forget about the other side of the coin - the side effects that the use of this type of cosmetics causes.
Since the eyes are a very sensitive organ, reacting even to the minimum amount of pathogenic bacteria, in order to avoid their presence, preservatives are included in the composition of the carcass. Unfortunately, in some cases they can cause allergies. Therefore, ink must necessarily pass ophthalmological control.

The results of carcass safety tests conducted by OKO-test magazine

Recommended with restrictionsVery limited recommendedNot recommended

OKO-test magazine examined black waterproof mascara - 26 items in total. Experts have found that most of them contain various heavy metals as well as preservatives. 16 environmentalists were classified as “not recommended”, and 8 are advised to use only in case of emergency, since their composition and packaging caused serious criticism.

The results of tests by UkrTEST for compliance with the properties of the mascara required (consistency, drying time, convenience of the brush, gluing of eyelashes, etc.)

Consistency

Good mascara should be of medium consistency. It should easily, in a thin layer, lie on the eyelashes, without dripping from them. Volumizing mascara should be somewhat thicker as it is wax based. Lengthening mascara is usually more liquid, as it is made on a polymer basis and, when dried, forms a thin film on the eyelashes.

Approbants rated almost all ink as “very good”.

The exception was " Yves Rocher"- the mascara is very dry, did not fit well on the eyelashes, and" Rilken Cromatics Waterproof"- very liquid mascara, when applied to the eyelashes, it flows and smears (ratings are "satisfactory").

Carcasses had a “good” consistency Bourjois Cil Intence, Oriflame Lash silk mascara soie, Lumene vitamin care mascara, Oriflame Aqua Lash mascara, Revlon water-tight mascara, Oriflame Lash build mascara volum.

The most successful consistency, according to the testers of UkrTEST, was all ink Ellen Betrix, Max Factor, Lancome.

Drying mascara on eyelashes

According to the Research Center of Independent Consumer Expertise, the ideal mascara should dry on the eyelashes within 1-1.5 minutes. During this time, you can have time to give the desired shape to the eyelashes and apply as many layers of mascara as required. After the mascara has completely dried on the eyelashes, it is usually very difficult to apply another layer of mascara - the mascara will fall in lumps, the eyelashes will stick together and it will be almost impossible to comb them. If the mascara has a long drying time, then after applying it, you should wait a while and do not “clap” your eyelashes, otherwise part of the mascara will remain on the eyelids, under the eyebrows and you will need to wipe it off.

In our fast-paced time, many women do not have a second of extra time, so this mascara is not suitable for them. It should be noted that polymer-based mascara (all waterproof) may take a little longer to dry, but this will not be a disadvantage, otherwise the mascara will polymerize on the eyelashes “on the go” and clumps will result. In addition, the time spent on painting eyelashes is more than compensated by the fact that the mascara does not need to be corrected during the day and the eyelashes will remain in order until the evening.

The best in this parameter were Ellen Betrix mascara Double volum, Ellen Betrix mascara Natural, Max Factor Stretch mascara, all ink Lancome, Oriflame Lash build mascara volum, Boirjois Cil Waterproof mascara for sensitive eyes.

Mascara received "satisfactory" ratings Rilken Cromatics Waterproof(it seems that this mascara does not dry at all, besides it is very smeared) and Yves Rocher(here the picture is reversed - you will not have time to make a smear with a brush, as the mascara has already dried up, and it is no longer possible to shape the eyelashes.

However, some women who like to just “touch” their eyelashes with mascara liked it, but in their assessment, UkrTEST was guided by a more “thorough” and thorough eye makeup). The rest of the test ink "dry" to "good".

Eyelash bonding

Normally, mascara should not strongly stick eyelashes, since conditioning substances are usually added to mascara, in addition, brushes patented by each company for applying mascara additionally comb eyelashes. This is probably why the carcasses received the most good ratings for this parameter. However, there was no consensus among the approbants: adherents of natural and light makeup rated the lack of gluing of eyelashes as a positive thing, lovers of more “dramatic” and spectacular eyes were satisfied with more sticky mascara, and strongly conditioning mascara was called “none”. Therefore, UkrTEST received a heavily averaged version of the estimates.

Strongly glued eyelashes only mascara Lumene vitamin care mascara She was the only one who received a “satisfactory” rating.

"Very good" conditioned lashes almost all mascara Ellen Betrix, Max Factor 2000 calorie mascara, Max Factor sensitive eyes, Bourjois Cil intense, Yves Rocher Couleurs Nature mascara.

Mascara staying power at the end of the day

A very important indicator of the quality of the carcass. It is unpleasant to find “mourning” under your eyes so carefully made up in the morning by the end of the day.

ink Cromatics Waterproof, which, due to its water resistance, should last at least until the evening, crumbled from the eyelashes already 3 hours after application (rating "with flaws"), mascara Lumene vitamin care mascara crumbled a little by the end of the day and the testers rated it as “satisfactory”.

The most resistant were: all tested mascara ellen betrix, all tested mascara Lancome, Max Factor 2000 calorie mascara, Max Factor Curve & Curl mascara, Lumene Perfect mascara— all this mascara of UkrTEST testers has never failed.

Max Factor Stretch mascara, Yves Rocher Couleurs Nature mascara, Bourjois Cil waterproof mascara, Oriflame Aqua Lash mascara, Revlon water-tight mascara were resistant to “good” - very emotional and mobile approbants sometimes (but not systematically!) By the end of the day, they found crumbs of mascara under their eyelashes.

Mascara removal

Most approbants are used to removing mascara from eyelashes with water and soap, some use cosmetic milk for this purpose, and only a few remove mascara with special eye makeup removers. When evaluating non-waterproof mascara for this indicator, the test subjects used both soap and water and a special makeup remover, and hypoallergenic baby oil and a special waterproof mascara remover were used to remove waterproof mascara.

"Very well" filmed Max Factor Sensitive eyes, Bourjois Cil intense, Lumene Vitamin care mascara, Ellen Betrix mascara natural, Ellen Betrix mascara Double wolum, Max Factor Stretch mascara- these water-soluble mascaras were perfectly removed with both water and a special tool, the rest of the water-soluble mascara was removed without residue only with a special eye makeup remover (which is not cheap).

Waterproof mascara was removed in general well both with a special lotion and with baby oil (which is much cheaper than lotion). A little more of the above funds for their removal "required" mascara Bourjois Cil waterproof mascara and Revlon water-tight mascara, for which they were slightly lowered (“good”).

The convenience of the brush

When the testers started testing the mascara, they were pleasantly surprised by the variety of shapes and sizes of mascara brushes. It turns out that this is all nonsense. To lengthen the eyelashes, a brush with a sparse pile is used so that the mascara lies in a thin layer, but along the entire length of each eyelash. In mascara to increase the volume of eyelashes, a brush with a thick bristle is used, each bristle is additionally equipped with a microcomb to separate the eyelashes from one another.

Each company has its own specially designed and patented brushes, they are of different shapes, there are even curved ones. Evaluation of the convenience of a brush is very subjective - some women like short brushes more, others are more comfortable using long or oblong brushes. All mascaras received good ratings.

I would especially like to highlight the unusual shape of the brush in Max Factor Curve & Curl mascara And Cromatics Waterproof Curved brush helps curl lashes naturally.
